We are often asked what the minimum dimensions are for a golf simulator room. So let’s explore this in more detail.

Firstly, if the room is intended for private home use, then we can be a little bit more ambitious in our recommendations. As long as you can freely swing your driver then the room height shouldn’t pose a problem. The width of your room ideally needs to be a minimum of 3.2 meters and the overall depth of your room should be no less than 5.5 meters. These dimensions are a little bit on the tight side but will suffice where room size is limited. Although bear in mind, some launch monitors may not work correctly in small spaces.

Our standard recommended dimensions are – 4.2 meters wide by 3.1 meters high by 6.5 meters in depth. Obviously, the bigger the room, the more comfortable and safer you can make it.

On a commercial basis, then we would recommend a ceiling height of 3.1 meters and an overall depth of at least 8 meters. The width of each bay will depend on how many simulators are desired within the fit out. But generally speaking we would recommend 4 to 5 meters.

If you require a design with a centred hitting ball position, then we we would recommend a bay width of no less than 4.8 meters and ideally 5 meters if your space will allow it. Some manufacturers suggest a width of 4.5 meters for centre hitting. In our experience 4.5 meters is really tight and somewhat claustrophobic. The golfer would not be able to step back to make a practice swing because they would almost certainly hit the wall behind them.

Of course, you can always opt for a smaller width bay and install a dual hitting sensor, such as the TrackMan IO DUO system (pictured below).
